The Story Of Rugby League

Join Now              Rating
'The Story of Rugby League', presented by Shaun Edwards and narrated by Jon Champion traces the history of the great game from its inception in the George Hotel, Huddersfield in 1895 right up to the 2000 Super League Grand Final. All the great teams are covered including Huddersfield's 'Team of Talents' captained by Harold Wagstaff; the GB World Cup winning team of 1960; the great ashes winning teams of the 50's, 60's and 70's; and, of course, Wigan's incredible teams from 1988-1996. Featuring all the best action from the Challenge Cup, from Wigan's victory in the first ever Wembley Challenge Cup Final in 1929, through to Bradford's defeat of Leeds at Murrayfield in 2000. Highlights include the World record attendance of over 102,000 at Odsal as Warrington defeated Halifax in a replay in 1954, Neil Fox's 20 points as Wakefield Trinity beat Hull in 1960, Don Fox's tragic miss to hand Leeds the final in 1968, and the historic final of 1980 as Roger Millwood's Hull Kingston Rovers defeated Hull. The modern day greats are all featured. The 1980's saw many legends play at the same time, such as Martin Offiah, Ellery Hanley, Gary Schofield and Shaun Edwards. As SKY put millions of pounds into the game, the likes of the Paul brothers, and homegrown talent in James Lowes and Iestyn Harris have come to the fore. This programme covers all the players, action, memorable moments and controversy through the fantastic story of rugby league.
